Do you need to flash a new ROM to do the status bar, or just a root?

You need to flash a CM7 ROM. The status bar is a CM7 theme and can only be obtained through a CM7 ROM.

Yeah, I looked it up.
I can't find an insecure kernel for mine, and secondly, I don't want to risk a brand new SGSII.

Funny you mention that, I'm getting a SGSII in a few days. I'm putting a CM7 rom on it almost immediately.

I understand where your fear comes from. I was a bit skeptical about flashing my android device in my early days as well, but I guess after a while it becomes almost a standard to have my device flashed.

Yeah, I went that way with my iPod.

One question, do you need an insecure kernel to flash the CM7 ROM? I've never found a simple answer to that.

Is it rooted or something cus i cant seem to find the icons or the program to change the CM7 theme

My phone is rooted but you do not need it rooted to achieve a similar look.
Without root, you will get everything but the white status bar.

Search and download GoLauncher EX in the market.
